By Siraj Khan, Nepalgunj, Apr. 19: Amid the daily surge in coronavirus cases in Banke, three wards of the Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City have become COVID-19 hotspots.

According to Tej Oli, focal person of the District COVID-19 Crisis Management Centre, Banke, the virus had been spreading uncontrollably in ward no. 10, 12 and 18.

“Highest rate of infection has been recorded in Bhrikutinagar of ward no. 10, Koreanpur of ward no. 12, and Karkando of ward no. 18,” said Oli.

Upon investigating the reason behind the rapid surge in coronavirus cases in these wards, it was found that the number of people returning from India to these places had been on the rise lately, informed the crisis management centre.

Meanwhile, the health department of the sub-metropolitan city has requested everyone to remain alert, follow the health safety protocols, and not step outside home unless there is an emergency.

According to the department, the infection rate in Nepalgunj had been increasing unpredictably since last week.

The RT-PCR tests done in the past few days have shown almost 100 per cent positive results.

Considering the condition of those who are visiting hospitals with the symptoms of COVID-19, it can be ascertained that the virus has spreading rampantly at the community level.

The doctors have said that Nepalgunj, which was hit hard by the first wave of the pandemic, had moved back to square one.
