Karnali, Gandaki and Province 1 see rise in COVID-19 cases

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Aug 5: Karnali, Gandaki and Province 1 are listed to have the highest coronavirus infection rate in the last two weeks.

According to a press release of the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), the coronavirus infection rate in Karnali is 57.3 per cent, in Gandaki 44 per cent and in Province 1, it is 32 per cent. Bagmati Province holds the highest number of coronavirus infections in the nation.

The coronavirus infection rate which was below 20 in the first two weeks of July, has increased to 20.1 per cent on July 19 and has been increasing ever since. The highest recorded infection rate is 24.3 per cent on July 30, which has increased by four per cent in a month from June 30.

Dr Samir Kumar Adhikari, the Joint Spokesperson at the MoHP, informed in the daily press brief on Wednesday that the infection which had become static after the peak of the second wave is rising again.

He said, “If the COVID-19 case continues to grow, it will be difficult to support the health infrastructure and there will be problems in managing the hospital beds.”

The infection rate of August 5 was 26.2 per cent which is way high than the average infection rate in the country.
