By TRN Online, Kathmandu, May 2: The Ministry of Health and Population on Sunday confirmed 7,137 new cases of COVID-19, taking the nation's novel coronavirus tally to 336,030. This is the highest single-day rise in the COVID-19 tally reported in the nation until now.

In 16,147 Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) tests done in the past 24 hours, 7,137 persons were found infected with SARS-CoV-2," informed Dr. Jageshwor Gautam, spokesperson at the Health Ministry in the regular press briefing.

Likewise, out of 623 antigen tests done in the 24 hours, the virus infection was detected in 74 people.

Of the new infections, 3,595 were recorded in the Kathmandu Valley including 301 in Bhaktpur, 550 in Lalitpur and 2,744 in Kathmandu.

Currently, there are 48,711 active cases of COVID-19 across the nation of which, 3,530 patients are admitted to various institutional isolation and 45,181 are placed in home isolation. Likewise, 67 people mostly those who had returned from abroad, are placed in quarantine. 

Meanwhile, 1,612 COVID-19 patients receiving treatment in institutional isolation or staying in home isolation recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours. Nepal has now recorded 283,994 cases of recovery and the recovery rate is at 84.51 per cent.

Moreover, 27 COVID-19 related fatalities were confirmed across the nation in the last 24 hours. The nation's COVID-19 death toll is at 3,325.
