Actress Manisha Koirala donates health materials

By Netra Sahi, Jumla, June 8: Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (KAHS), in Jumla district, in Karnali Province, has received health materials from Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala for the treatment of COVID-19 patients in the province.

She provided some 410 sets of PPE, 300 pieces of glasses, 300 pieces of KN95 face masks, 10,000 pieces of Dexona (toilet cleaner) and 60 pieces of reusable gowns through her namesake foundation, Manisha Koirala Foundation, on Monday.

Nepal Army assisted her in transporting the materials from Kathmandu to the hospital. Thanking her for the help, Dr. Rajeev Shah of the hospital, said that alongside the actress others have also donated similar materials to the hospital.

According to him, USAID provided a refrigerator and PCR lab, among other supports, to the hospital. And 10 oxygen cylinders, worth about Rs. 300000, were provided by the Nepalis currently living in Uganda, an African country.

“Various organisations and helping hands have also provided similar support in an effort to help the hospital fight the pandemic,” he said. Dr. Shah said that before only people from villages used to visit the hospital but these days there were a lot of patients from city areas as well.

“At present, there are 120 isolation beds, 12 ICU beds, 24 HDU, and 20 other beds with direct oxygen supply from the plant installed in the hospital’s vicinity for the treatment of the COVID-19 patients,” he added.

Raj Bahadur Mahat, a social activist, said that the people’s trust in the hospital had surged because of its ability to provide quality treatment at a moderate price.

According to the data provided by the District Administrative Office, currently, there are a total of 36 patients undergoing treatment through ventilator support in the hospital
