Kathmandu, Dec. 12: 600,020 doses of Pfizer vaccine provided under the global COVAX initiative by the US will arrive in Nepal on December 24.

According to Bade Babu Thapa, Senior Pharmacist of the Supply Management Branch of the Department of Health Services (DoHS), 600,020 doses of Pfizer vaccine provided under the COVAX facility will arrive on December 24. “We have booked the arrival date of the Pfizer vaccine for December 24, however, the formal letter is yet to arrive.” He said.

Bharat Bhandari, Immunisation Officer at the Child Health and Immunisation Section of the Department of Health Services (DoHS) said that they will run the administration of Pfizer vaccine campaign to children between 12-18 years in two phases.

In the first phase, eight districts, Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Kavre, Sindhuli, Chitwan, Surkhet, and Dadeldhura will administer Pfizer.

He added that the date to start the Pfizer vaccination campaign is yet to be ascertained.

Earlier, 100,620 doses of Pfizer had arrived in Nepal on October 24. Of the 100,620 doses of vaccine received, 50,000 doses have been already administered and the remaining 50,000 doses will be used in the next vaccination campaign.
