3.2 lakh people receive first jabs of Vero Cell COVID-19 vaccine

By Mahima Devkota, Kathmandu, Jun. 15: A total of 325,047 people have received their first jabs of the COVID-19 vaccine under the vaccination campaign that started on June 8.

Government officials said that the campaign carried the aim to inoculate 662,367 people through 155 vaccination centres of 22 districts of 60-64 age group in Kathmandu Valley and for 62- 64 years age group in the remaining 74 districts.

The camping which was abruptly halted owing to the mismanagement and lack of COVID-19 vaccine resumes in the Kathmandu Metropolitan City from Monday.

According to Dr Taranath Pokhrel, director of the Family Welfare Division, the campaign targeted to inoculate 662,367 people and, currently, has vaccinated 325,047 people, making the coverage per cent stand at 49.07.

Dr Taranath Pokhrel, said, “As many as 36,879 people in Province 1, 31,891 in Province 2, 113,551 in Bagmati Province, 27,665 in Gandaki Province, 66,524 in Lumbini Province, 16,009 in Karnali Province and 32,438 in Sudur Paschim Province Have been inoculated so far.”

he added that on the seven days campaign, 88,253 people were inoculated on the first day on June 8,  97,984 on June 9, 78,739 on June 10, 33,756 on June 11, 11,871 on June 12, and 8,294 and 6,150 on 13 and 14 June respectively.

Dr. Pokhrel further said that the vaccination campaign was commenced with the 11 lakhs doses of Vero Cell vaccine, therefore, the target has been to inoculate 662,367 people in a way that all those who received the first jabs will get their booster as well.
