208,700 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine arrive in Nepal from Japan

By Mahima Devkota, Kathmandu, Aug. 21: A total of 208,700 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines that are provided by Japan under the COVAX facility have arrived in Nepal this morning. 

According to Bade Babu Thapa, Senior Pharmacist of the supply management branch under the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), the Qatar Airlines carrying 208,700 doses of anti-COVID-19 vaccine has arrived today at 9:35 AM.

“We will store the AstraZeneca vaccine in Teku and will distribute it to provinces shortly,” said Chief Thapa.

Dr. Bharat Bhandrai, Immunization Officer at the Child Health and Immunization Section, said that Province 1 and 2 will receive the AstraZeneca vaccine as it is yet to inoculate citizens above 65 years, with a second dose of Covishield.

Of the total 1.6 million AstraZeneca doses to be provided by Japan, Nepal had received nine lakh doses earlier. It has been said that the remaining 948,700 doses will arrive on August 23.

Nepal has received a total of 10,860,170 anti-COVID-19 vaccines, of them, 2,448,000 are Covishield shots, 1.6 million are Johnson & Johnson vaccines, 7.4 million doses of Vero Cell vaccine, and  1,077,320 Astra Zeneca shots.
