13 million vaccines received, 75.6% used till now

By Aasha Shah, Kathmandu, Sep. 3: The nation has received a total of 13,359,110 doses of COVID-19 vaccines from January till August 2021.

According to the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), 10,103,864 doses have been administered to people across the nation until now. Therefore, 75.6 per cent of the total vaccines received have been used.

The Health Ministry has informed that a total of 5,425,888 people have received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccines and of them, 4,677,976 have already received the second dose.

Currently, the government is administering AstraZeneca, Vero Cell, and J&J vaccines via different vaccination centres nationwide. 

The data revealed by the MoHP on Wednesday states that 2,134,848 people have received the first dose of Covishield (developed by AstraZeneca) and of them, 1,232,851 have been inoculated with the second dose.

Similarly, the first dose of the Vero Cell vaccine has been administered to 3,289,988 people and the second dose to 2,070,859 people. Also, 1,363,618 people have been inoculated with the J&J vaccine until now.

Upendra Dhungana, chief of the Logistic Management Section of the Department of Health and Services said that a total of 1.1 million doses of Covishield were received from the government of India and the Indian Army on January 21. Likewise, China has provided 1.8 million doses of Vero Cell until now, said Dhungana.

He added that Bhutan had provided 230,000 doses and UK had provided 131,200 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines under grant assistance.

Chief Dhungana said that the government had procured 1 million doses of Covishield and 4 million doses of Vero Cell vaccines.

Moreover, 348,000 doses of Covishield have been received under the COVAX facility, 1,534,850 doses of  J&J vaccines have been provided by the USA to Nepal, said Dhungana, adding that Japan had also provided AstraZeneca Vaccine to the nation in August.

The government has aimed to vaccinate 21,756,763 people by the end of coming April.
