Spread of COVID-19 high among security forces in Baglung, 51 found infected in a single day

By Nabin Sishir BK, Baglung, Oct. 15: Infection of the novel coronavirus is on the rise among the security personnel of the Nepali Army and the Nepal Police in Baglung district.

In Baglung, 51 more persons including Nepal Police, Nepali Army (NA), people's representatives and Pokhara High Court Baglung bench have been confirmed to have contracted the virus.

The number of infected people in the NA has reached 96, including 21 added on Thursday, which started with the three who tested positive for COVID-19 in the beginning.

Infection in 14 police officials was found today as per the contact tracing of the police officer who tested positive for COVID-19 earlier.

A PCR test conducted at the Tuberculosis Treatment Center in Pokhara on Thursday confirmed the novel coronavirus infection in two men aged 20 of Kothekhola Rural Municipality, a man aged 26, and two women aged 29 and 36 from Tamankhola Rural Municipality, 41 men and four women from Baglung Municipality, said Suraj Gurau, chief of Baglung Health Office.

Of the infected with address in Baglung, 22 are from NA, one child of a NA personnel, 14 Nepal Police officials, three officials of High Court Pokhara Baglung bench, one people's representative of Baglung Municipality and five persons staying in quarantine after returning from India, said Sushil Poudel, Public Health Inspector of Baglung Municipality Health Branch.

Out of the five infected that came from India, two are living in home quarantine and the three are living in the municipal quarantine setup, he said.

The PCR test was conducted on the basis that the Nepali Army, police, judicial service personnel and people's representatives were in contact with the infected.

Prasad Khanal, Chief of the Municipal Health Branch, feared community transmission of the virus and a terrible situation in the offing.

He has requested all to not go around the market area without urgency and to walk only after fulfilling the safety standards in case of urgent necessity.
