Metropolitan Traffic Police Division, Ramshahpath has expedited the process of seizing stolen vehicles in the Kathmandu Valley, as well as taking action against those involved in it.
Bimal Gurung, 30, of Nuwakot and Ashish Khatri of Belbari, Morang, have been arrested along with a motorcycle (Ba 92 Pa 9133) belonging to Ashokman Singh Kunwar from Goldhunga of Balaju in Kathmandu.
They had changed the number plate to Ba 96 Pa 4590, after stealing the bullet bike, said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and chief of the division, Janak Bhattarai.
According to Bhattarai, the division has managed to recover 30 two wheelers --including 19 motorcycles and 11 scooters -- in two weeks.
They were recovered from various places in and around the Valley, like Bhaktapur, Kandaghari, Machhapokhari, Gokarneshwar, Tokha, New Bus Park and other places, and handed over to their rightful owners by organising a function at the division on Monday.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhattarai said that the campaign to recover stolen vehicles had been intensified.
"For this, we have mobilised a team of special traffic police in plain clothes. The team regularly collects news and seizes motorcycles through special operations and also arrests people involved in it," he said.
During the current fiscal year, 331 missing motorcycles have been recovered and handed over to their owners, while 45 thieves have been booked.
The division has requested everyone to inform the nearest police station or traffic office by dialing hot line -- 103 -- or through online application immediately after their vehicles get stolen.
