PCR test on priority: Minister Dhakal

Kathmandu, May 8: Minister for Health and Population, Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal, has said that the government has put on priority the test for coronavirus through PCR method.

At a programme organized today at the Ministry to solicit suggestions regarding ministry’s policy and programme from lawmakers of the Federal Parliament, Minister Dhakal shared that there was adequate quantity of kits for PCR test.

Nepal government received 30,000 kits from the Swiss government 20,000 kits from Chinese government.

On the occasion, he added that the ministry has deputed special team in Udayapur, Parsa and Nepalgunj, the most risk prone areas of COVID-19.

Some media made wrong publicity about the test of lawmakers carried out on Thursday, argued the Health Minister.

Kits were sent to states on an equal ratio and special health teams had been sent to more sensitive areas, he added.

Juli Kumari Mahato demanded the expansion of testing coverage in State 2 while Samina Hussain was of the view of increasing PCR testing rates. Suresh Chandra Das stressed the need of rescuing Nepali citizens left stranded in India, putting them in quarantine and sending home after COVID-19 testing.

Sarita Kumari Giri and Chand Tara Kumari voiced for establishing infectious disease control hospital at state-level as well to reduce 'intolerable' pressure in the Teku-based hospital while Leela Shrestha demanded the short-term and long-term plans in health sector.

Tulasa Kumari Dahal spoke the need of one family one member PCR test.
