Kathmandu, Jan.8: Election Commission (EC) Nepal has started internal preparatory works for the mid-term election in the country.
Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya said that the Commission had begun its preparatory tasks internally. After dissolving the House, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had announced mid-term elections on April 30 and May 10.
Speaking with the officials of the Gorkhapatra Corporation in his office on Thursday, Thapaliya said that the EC was preparing voters’ list and fixing voting centres.
“Initially, we will finalise the voters’ list and polling centres by Sunday. After this, we will publish the code of ethics and others for the political parties and leaders,” he added.
Stating that the leaders did not seem excited for the early elections, he said that the election was a game, politicians were the players and the EC was the referee. “Until and unless the players get excited for the match, the game will not be exciting,” he added.
He said that the Commission aims at ensuring maximum participation of the people in the election so that appropriate candidates will be elected in the leadership.
Thapaliya also said that the EC was willing to collaborate with the Gorkhapatra Corporation because it holds strong public trust and provides accurate information to the people.
“Printingmn of election materials will be decentralised by using presses outside valley, ” he said.
He said utilising the press machines in regions could minimise transportation cost of the government.
A team of the Gorkhapatra led by its Executive chairman Krishna Murari Bhandari had reached the Election Commission for the meeting.
