183 stranded at border enter Nepal, 160 to arrive soon

By Chandani Acharya, Lamki, May 2: At least 183 people of Kailali, who had been stuck at India-Nepal border, have entered homeland and they have been quarantined in their respective local levels.

Yagya Raj Bohara, Chief District Officer (CDO) of Kailali said, "183 people who were stranded at Darchula and Baitadi border points had entered Nepal on Friday evening."

Preparations are going on to bring in 160 Nepalis who have been stuck in India, he added.

The Nepali labourers of Kailali district working at various parts of India have been quarantined in Kailali district itself upong their arrival at homedistrict after a month of being stranded at the border due to lockdown to stemp spread of COVID-19.

46 returnees have been quarantined in Ghodghodi Municipality and 41 are in Mohnyal Rural Municipality.

Ram Singh Dhami of Ghodaghodi Municipality-9 said, "We got to enter our country after 34 days of being stranded at the border. It feels like we've won a war."

He said that all the returnees were ready to stay in quarantine for the safety of their families.

"Even though the India-based quarantine was well facilitated, we were missing our family and country during the time of crisis," said Gita Chaudhary, another returnee "We were looking forward to entering Nepal as soon as possible."

Mamata Prasad Chaudhary, Mayor of Ghodaghodi Municipality said that everyone returning from India was being quarantined.

"As we do not have COVID-19 test kit now, we have decided to conduct Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) as soon as the kit arrives," said Chaudhary. "The returnees will be sent home on the basis of test results."
