The Health Issues During Lockdown

The over-a-month long lockdown has left the Nepalis with no option but to stay indoors. As a result, they have started lacking physical activities which they would have undertaken during normal times. The lockdown period has provided them with plenty of times. One of the habits they have developed during the lockdown period is to remain glued to their gadgets such as mobile phones, tabs, laptops and televisions. With their eyes constantly on electronic gadgets for an inordinate period, many of these people have now been suffering from what is called Computer Vision Syndrome, which is a group of eye-related problems.

Due to their prolonged use of electronic gadgets they have been complaining of symptoms like eyestrains, headaches, blurred vision, dry eyes and pain in shoulder and neck, which are mainly associated with the Compute Vision Syndrome. Experts say that the continuous looking at screens reduces the blink rate of eye and therefore causes a lot of problem to eyes. The people say that since they have been left with plenty of times of remaining idle at their houses, the electronic gadgets have kept them occupied throughout the day. Due to the closure of offices, schools, colleges and other business activities during the lockdown, online and offline games, streaming of movies, television shows and movies have kept them engaged.

There are many who fear that if the lockdown period prolongs due to fear of COVID-19, the people may confront other health hazards, apart from the Computer Vision Syndrome owing to their lack of physical activities. After the imposition of lockdown, people have stopped stepping out of their homes for activities like morning walks, yoga and other forms of physical exercises to gymnasiums. Sports activities too have come to naught as the authorities have barred people to gather in groups. People suffering from obesity, diabetes, blood pressure and many other maladies, who require going out in parks and gyms to take care of their health, are currently on receiving end due to the prolonged lockdown. The outbreak of life-threatening COVID-19 is indeed a desperate time for all and especially people with some forms of health disorder. Even our authority that is lacking resources and technology has been finding it difficult to tackle the COVID-19 related challenges.

At this tough period, a gentle advice to the people may help lessen their predicament: While being highly cautious not to venture out of their houses, they should need to stick to some genuine ways to cope with the coronavirus related quandaries. The parents can engage themselves, and should teach their wards to get involved in physical activities and take part in cooking, gardening and playing indoor games where some physical activities are required. In the same way, people having underlying health problems can engage themselves in physical exercises at houses and properties, while they await the lockdown to be relaxed or lifted. The idea behind such an advice is aimed at helping to avoid a person developing major health problems owing to the prolonged use of electronic gadgets or living a sedentary life that sometimes require visits to doctors or hospitals because visiting hospitals at this crucial time is fraught with difficulties and a person must be aware of avoiding it at any cost.
