Humla, Dec. 8: A five-month natural lockdown has been imposed on Limi thanks to heavy winter snowfall. The snow has blocked the only two entry points, Nyalu and Nara, making it impossible for people inside the settlement to leave and those outside it to enter.
According to local Norbu Tamang, Limi is now sealed off from the rest of the country for almost half a year.

“There are three villages in Limi, and we can only travel between them until the snow melts,” he said, adding, “Our only access to the outside world is through the internet service offered by WorldLink which stays operational as long as the sun shines.”
Tamang shared that the people of Limi would need to call for a helicopter from Kathmandu if someone fell ill and needed to be taken to the hospital. “There is no way of moving by road,” he said.

Phurba Tamang, a local from Halji village of Limi, who braved the snow to reach Simkot via Nara a few days ago, told The Rising Nepal that it had snowed three times over the last three months and the latest snowfall on Monday had been the heaviest. “People had cleared the snow the first two times but more than five feet of snow fell the third time which is too much to be cleared. So, Limi is completely closed now,” he said.

Chairman of Namkha Rural Municipality Ward No. 6 Paljorang Tamang, who travelled to Limi by helicopter to transport food grains, said that he too would not be able to leave. “We had planned to travel to Simkot by road through Nara but we will not be able to do that now,” he said.
This is the third snowfall for Limi. The first time it snowed was in October and the second time was in November.
