Janakpur, Dec. 2: Women can be seen painting the walls of Janakpurdham in pleasure despite the scorching heat. Their aim is to reflect the culture and traditions of Mithilanchal.
According to the authorities, the walls are being painted with Mithila paintings to beautify the city of Janakpurdham as the festival of ‘Bibaha Panchami’ is approaching nearer.

“Mithila paintings have been a source to reflect our culture to the world. The paintings depict the stories of the previous eras under the Hindu mythology,” said Lal Kishor Sah, Mayor of Janakpurdham Sub Metropolitan City.
“The paintings will also show that Goddess Sita is the major symbol for power and culture,” said Sah.

According to the authorities, they plan to celebrate this year’s Bibaha Panchami, the marriage anniversary of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita, in a more magnificent way.
“Janakpur has been celebrating the marriage anniversary of Sita and Ram for many years. In a bid to make the celebration more unique, the wall adjoined to the Province 2 Police Office is being painted to portray the culture of Mithila,” said Rima Yadav, a Mithila painter.

“The paintings will show the marriage of Sita-Ram. Since Mithila paintings in any walls make the structure attractive, we expect the same for the upcoming Bibaha Panchami,” said Yadav.
For the Mithila painters, the paintings are not only a source of portraying their culture but also a source of income as well.

“Mithila paintings show the full life of Goddess Sita. It is not only a passion for the painters but also a source of livelihood,” said Saraswati Mandal, one of the Mithila painters from Aurahi Rural Municipality.
The painters and locals informed that the Mithila paintings will also be decorating the walls in Gangasagar and other areas of Janakpurdham.

Earlier, during the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Janakpur, the walls were also decorated with Mithala paintings.
Mithila paintings depict the civilisation of Mithila, including the activities that took place during the life of Goddess Sita from the time of her birth to her marriage with Lord Ram.
