Technology For Development

Advancement in science and technology is a way to attain prosperity of a nation. At present, almost all sectors have benefitted from the utilisation of new technologies that help expedite development in every sector. Many nations, especially the US, Europe, Japan, China and many more, have achieved envious prosperity by utilising technologies in their respective education, agriculture, production and health sectors, thanks to the new progress they have achieved in the science and technology fields. The need for scientific research is more glaring at present as the world is currently battling against the dreaded coronavirus pandemic. As we have witnessed, owing to rapid research on the deadly virus, we have seen some rays of hope that the pandemic would soon be defeated with the help of science. The advent of various vaccines and treatment techniques has raised our hopes that the current pandemic would soon be a thing of the past, like many previous pandemics that afflicted human beings in the past decades or centuries.

Addressing the 9th Science Day through virtual technique on Friday, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba had precisely remarked his belief that the dreadful pandemic would be defeated with the help of science. Not only this, the adoption of the scientific techniques would guide us towards achieving our Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). To keep pace with the advanced world, our nation should also initiate to bring about transformation through scientific advancement in information, communication technologies and robotics. Most of the developed nations have reaped rich dividends by utilising their knowledge in the ICT and robotics field, where Artificial Intelligence techniques have brought tremendous achievements to these countries. As these two fields have aided many nations' development endeavours, our prime minister has exhorted all concerned bodies to concentrate on such technologies, which will give a boost to the concept of e-governance in the country.

As our country is still facing a dearth of scientific knowledge, there is a need that those who have academic know-how should connect such knowledge to real life. To gain tremendous benefits, the government requires making sufficient investments in these two sectors and roping in and encouraging many youths and students to engage in these fields. Likewise, investments in these sectors need to be attracted to intensifying the sectors' outcomes. It is obvious that without pouring resources on scientific researches, a society cannot gain progress in time. A society lacking technological advancement always lag in the development of infrastructure, education, health facilities and many other fields which the modern world prides over.

Our authority had about nine years ago realised the fact that without technology and scientific knowledge, a nation cannot attain optimum development and prosperity. This is the reason the line ministry had been celebrating Science Day for the last nine years to expand knowledge and encourage professionals in science-related investigative research. Looking at our present status, we can say that it is high time that our government paid due attention towards making sufficient contribution to make the two important fields in the country vibrant ones. To attain these goals, the government can move a step further to hire the best foreign brains of these two fields for guiding our students and professionals.
