Tara Devi Award given to Rana, late Rimal, Pariyar

Kathmandu, Jan. 24: Legendary singer Gyanu Rana, late lyricist and poet Bhairavnath Rimal and late musician Ganesh Pariyar have been honoured with Tara Devi Memorial awards 2077 BS.
Minister of State for Urban Development of Nepal Ram Bir Manandhar and Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Mayor Bidhya Sundar Shakya jointly handed over the awards to the legends amid a function organised by the Tara Devi Memorial Foundation on the occasion of her 15th memorial day.
The awards carry a purse of Rs. 25,001 each. The awards were presented to the legendary singer, lyricist and musician in recognition of their contribution to Nepali music.
According to the foundation, lyricist Rimal passed away on January 9 and musician Pariyar passed away on January 17.
The foundation had decided to honour Rimal and Pariyar prior to their demise, the foundation informed.
The award of late Rimal was received by his daughter Rekha Dhakal, while Pariyar’s award was received by his granddaughter Maria.
Similarly, the foundation also honoured Minister Manandhar for setting a world record by singing 62 songs for four hours 20 minutes continuously.
To pay tribute to Tara Devi, singers Gyanu Rana, Sarita Shahi, Geeta Pandey, Aliza Shrestha, Sujata Burma, among others, performed her songs at the event.
The Tara Devi Foundation was established in 2075 BS with the objective of encouraging the new generation by preserving and promoting the classical songs of Tara Devi, who is also known as “Nightingale of Nepal.”
