Kathmandu, Jan .11: Rich in melodious and captivating voice, Pabitra Subba was once a famous and successful singer.
Her songs used to touch the hearts and minds of all audience, as her mellifluous voice attracted many.
]Pabitra, who sings modern songs in particular, had reached the pinnacle of success from her first song, “Chandra Ma Ra Chakhewako”.
Having reordered about 300 songs, she remained anonymous from the music industry for over 15 years.
Talking to The Rising Nepal, the singer shared that she got married in 2004 and left the country in 2005 along with her husband.
She lived in Brunei for more than 10 years and has been in Nepal for a few years now and plans to stay in Nepal.
She said, “No matter how much you live outside; your country is your country. The soil of the country attracts Nepalis living abroad.”
When asked if she plans to make a comeback in the music industry, she said, “Right now, I'm collecting my music and putting it on YouTube and also preparing to make a comeback in music.”
If there was no lockdown due to COVID-19, she would have shone in the music industry much earlier.
Even though her comeback plan was halted due to coronavirus for a while, she is now confident of formally rejoining the industry within a year.
Songs like “Timi Tarebhir”, “Paat Ko Diyo”, “Ukaliko Goreto”, “Chokho Chha Hai Yo Mero Maya”, “Jiu Dhanai”, and “Preeti Ko Phool” amongs many other songs had made singer Pabitra famous among the audience then.
Born in Hong Kong, she passed her School Leaving Certificate (SLC) exam from Dharan. Later, she joined Padmakanya Campus with music as major.
She had been a major contributor to the music industry for over 15 years.
Although she stopped singing, audiences are still showering love to her singing talents.
She said that fans were requesting her to make a comeback to the industry which has encouraged her.
Now she is devoting all her time to her family and a daughter. And the good news for her fans is that she is preparing herself to return to her old ways soon.
When asked, how she perceived today’s music industry, she said that the music industry had undergone a revolution.
With the rise of technology and social media, the music industry has taken a big leap, she said.
But with the rapid transformation, unhealthy competition has also cast a shadow over real musicians.
She said the older singers worked hard, so they maintained discipline that led to immortal music.
There is a lot of spontaneity in the field of song and music nowadays, but the quality of song and music has decreased due to lack of discipline.
Many of the songs are being produced just to go viral on social media, which has put genuine singers under shadow, she added.
She urged the new generation to sing songs that show Nepali originality and show respect and love to Nepali songs and music.
