Singer Bhattarai dies in accident

By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Jan. 14: Popular singer Nisan Bhattarai died on a road accident after a private car he was driving rammed into a pole at Tinkune, Kathmandu on early Tuesday morning.  

Bhattarai was returning home after performing a musical show organised at Ban Thai Restaurant, at Durbarmarg last night, according to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and chief at Metropolitan Traffic Police Division, Bhim Dhakal.

Looking at the CCTV footage of the accident, singer Bhattarai while heading towards his home, had all of sudden hit an electricity pole at Tunkune.

Police officers deployed at the police station located just 100 metres of the accident site, reached the spot rushed singer Bhattarai to Trauma Centre of Bir Hospital, according to DSP Durga Raj Regmi at Metropolitan Police Circle, Baneshwore.

DSP Regmi said that a big sound of road accident was heard and the police stationed at Tinkune reached the site and rescued the singer lying unconscious inside the car.

 Bhattarai was all alone during the time of accident. The hospital declared him dead following his admission at the Trauma Centre, said police.

“We can’t actually say anything whether he felt asleep or was driving the vehicle on a drunken state,” DSP Regmi said. “Following family’s request, we did not carry out investigation into the accident after Bhattarai’s death,” DSP Regmi said.

Late Bhattarai was cremated at Pashupati electric crematory centre on Tuesday afternoon.
