By Our Correspondent, Syangja, March 9: Andhikhola Rural Municipality in Syanja district has erected a statue of visually-impaired Shrawan Kumar at Nagdada, in Putlibazaar Municipality-4.
With the aim of promoting the municipality, it has built the statue at the entrance of religiously-significant Andha Andhi Lake.
Treta-era legend has it that Shrawn Kumar, who was on a pilgrimage with his elderly parents and who at the time was desperately seeking water to quench their thirst, got killed by the arrow released by Dashratha, father of Lord Ram. The legend goes on to mention that the tears coming out from the eyes of the inconsolably sobbing parents of Shrawn Kumar resulted in the formation of the lake.
Cursed by the grief-stricken parents, Lord Ram, along with his wife Sita, was condemned to live in jungle for fourteen years.
Poudel said that the project mainly targets the pilgrims coming all the way from India through Siddhartha Highway.
Engineer Prakash Poudel said that the five-foot-wide and eight-foot-tall statue was constructed at a cost of Rs. 1.5 million
