Kathmandu, May 19: Search for actors for the biopic film “Tenzing Norgay” has begun. Former US President Barack Obama in collaboration with Netflix is making the film.
The production company of Barack and Michelle Obama, Higher Grand Productions, has collaborated with film streaming platforms Netflix for the production of the film based on Tenzing Norgay Sherpa, who conquered the world’s highest peak, Mount Everest, for the first time.
Australian casting call company Danny Long has invited actors for the film. It has been said that even actors who do not have experience in acting will be given a chance to cast.
The company has stipulated the actor doing the role of Tenzing should have Himalayan looks, Tibetan-Sherpa and Nepali, but he should be aged between 25 and 40 years.
If casting is chosen, the film will be shot in Nepal and New Zealand in 2022.
“We're searching in Australia and New Zealand for someone to play the lead role of Tenzing Norgay in a major film based on his life.
No acting experience necessary! Applicants should have an athletic build, read a statement of the production company.
If successful, this will be a very well-paid job and will be shooting in New Zealand and Nepal in 2022,” according to the website of Danny Long.
In the initial stage, there will be auditions for Tenzing and then for other artistes.
The film ‘Tenzing’ will be directed by BAFTA nominee Jennifer Peedom (Sherpa), who has spent years on Everest herself.
Academy Award nominee and BAFTA winner Luke Davies (Lion) has written the script based on the book “Tenzing: Hero of Everest” by Ed Douglas.
Sherpa and Edmund Hillary successfully climbed Mt. Everest together for the first time on May 29, 1953.
Born and raised in Tengboche, Solukhumbu, in Nepal, Tenzing conquered Mt. Everest at the age of 39.
He died on May 9, 1986 at the age of 72 in Darjeeling, India.
