Kathmandu, May 29: Legendary poet and lyricist Ratna Shumsher Thapa passed away on Thursday. He was 83.
After being unwell on Wednesday evening he was taken to Norvic International Hospital for treatment, and he breathed his last while undergoing treatment, informed poet and filmmaker Prakash Sayami.
Thapa’s swab has also been collected for PCR test. Sayami informed that Thapa's body would be handed over to his family after receiving the report at 6 pm.
Thapa had been ill since February after he fell in his house and had a nerve surgery at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in March. His condition was feeble after he fell down.
However, his family members did not make his illness public fearing crowds in hospital.
According to Sayami, he was taking rest at home after the surgery.
An outspoken poet, Thapa has hundreds of songs to his credit.
“Ghumtima Naau Hai”, “Eh Kancha Thattaima Yo Bhaisa Khera Jaan Lagyo”, “Jaaga Lamka Chamka He Naujawana Ho” and “Pankchhima Ramro Danphe” are some of the timeless songs composed by him.
