By Deepak Gyawali, Butwal, Mar. 17: The construction of a war museum has begun at Jitgadhi Fort in Butwal where the Nepali troops triumphed against the British in 1816 AD during the Anglo-Nepal war.

Historic objects and architectures reflecting the Anglo-Nepal war will be displayed in the museum, which will connect the historical heritage site Jitgadhi with the cultural city Old Butwal (Batauli).

The foundation stone for the construction of the museum was laid on Tuesday by Mayor of Butwal Sub-metropolitan City Shiva Raj Subedi.

"The museum is being built to establish Jitgadhi, which is the nation's pride and identity, as a center of Batauli tourism," said mayor Subedi. "The museum is one of the main campaigns to promote tourism under the unified urban development masterplan created by Butwal Sub-metropolitan City."

According to Subedhi, various projects holding various short-term and long-term importance were formed after the election of local representatives.

"Unified urban development masterplan has been made by anticipating the population density of Butwal 50 years later," he said.

Subedi added that the war museum was being constructed under the same masterplan.

The four-storied museum will cover around three Katthas lands near Bhairav Temple in Butwal-1. The ancient articles and architecture will be displayed on the first, second, and third floors and a café would be established on the fourth floor where various delicacies reflecting the traditional food culture will be served.

Likewise, a souvenir shop will be placed on the ground floor of the museum.

The museum is being constructed in the capital of around Rs. 60 million. The sub-metropolitan city had concluded an agreement with Shiva Shakti Construction Company for the construction of the museum on January 23.

Engineer Pravakar Lamichhane, representative of the construction company assured that the company would strive to finish the project before the deadline.
