Kathmandu, Aug. 26: Singer Durgesh Thapa is often the subject of controversy and criticism when he releases his new songs.
Most of the time, various allegations are made against the lyrics of his songs.
Police even arrested singer Thapa last year, when he released the song, “Happy Tihar, Chiso Beer”. He was dragged into controversy because of the words used in the song.
Thapa was also accused of plagiarism, when he released his song “Bicha Bicha Ma 2”; he was alleged to have copied a line of an old song. He used “Aakasaima Badalu Dammai Chha Manma K Chha Bhannelai Sammai Chha” in his song Bicha Bichama 2, for which he was again dragged into controversy.
As if with success, controversies followed Thapa like a shadow.
He also got into hullabaloo on a television interview with journalist Rishi Dhamala’s Janata Jananna Chahancha, where he also showed the inadequacy of his singing ability.
In the interview, journalist Dhamala asked Thapa to sing the song of Narayan Gopal, the Swar Samrat, but he sang the song “Mutu Jalirahechha” by singer Bhaktaraj Acharya.
Again he asked to sing singer Yam Baral’s song; he again repeated the mistake and sang singer Ram Krishna Dhakal’s song “Orali Lageko” as singer Baral’s song.
As a popular singer, Thapa not only sang wrong songs but also showed inadequacy in his singing. Though a successful singer, Thapa was singing in the interview as if a layman was singing.
After this interview, singers like Astha Raut slammed him and made a comment that toxic things have become more important than good things, targeting singer Thapa. Singer Anju Panta also said Thapa needed to learn singing.
Now, singer Thapa has again released his new song entitled “Aalu Jasto Gayak”, which features popular actors like Paul Shah and Pushpa Khadka.
The song has already been viewed by more than 14 million audiences so far and the song has also succeeded to reach in the trending number one on YouTube.
Though the song is in trending number one, the selection of words of his latest song has also drawn the attention of the viewers.
The lyrics of his song are “Na Mero Aamale School Dekheko, Na Mero Babale Geet Lekheko, Kasari Jannnu Khoi Maile Surtaal, Nagar Sawal, Ho Ho Male Bhanne Manchhe Gayak Bho Balal”.
The lyric of the song tries to explain Thapa’s strong feelings that if the mother is educated and father is a writer one can learn rhythm and melody.
There are singers who come from the low family background, but their continuous practice and dedication towards singing have proved that what matters is talent not the economic condition of the family nor parents should be educated.
However, Thapa himself accepted he is not a good singer but a good performer on a live conversation with actor Paul Shah.
He said, “I am not a singer, I am a model, I had sung my first song “Mudda Haldinchhu” out of whim, but the audience loved it and made me a singer and I will learn to sing in coming days.”
