Kathmandu, May 20: Recently, when our southern neighbour India inaugurated a road constructed in the Nepali territory of Lipulek to reach Manasarovar in Tibet, China, Nepali people as well as the government have strongly opposed the unilateral act.
Comedian and social campaigner Sitaram Kattel has also openly protested against the land encroachment of Nepal by India. On Monday, the comedian duo, Sitaram Kattel and Kunjana Ghimire, released a new video on Lipulek and Kalapani border dispute.
In the video, it is mentioned that India has built the road by encroaching the land but the leaders of Nepal have not been able to take any concrete action.
In the 10.5-minute video, the popular comedians try to convey a message that if the leaders fail to reclaim the land encroached by India, Nepali citizens themselves will bring it back.
The video is filmed and edited by Sudip Baral and directed and acted by Sitaram and Kunjana.
Prior to this video, Kattel wrote on facebook and expressed his dissatisfaction over the act of India to build road in the Nepali land. He said that India has been crossing Nepal’s border at different times and has been involved in controversies which has again revealed its true nature by constructing a road to Manasarovar in Tibet, China, via Lipulek.
He further wrote that not only Kalapani, Lipulek and Susta, 71 places on the Nepal-India border have been disputed by the Indian side. “Therefore, we urge India to take immediate steps to return the Nepali land,” said Kattel.
Kattel urged Nepal government to take initiative to resolve the border issues in a diplomatic manner in accordance with international law. “We need a neighbour with a big heart, not a neighbour with only a large territory across borders,” wrote Kattel . Kattel said, “We all love our motherland more than heaven. Therefore, frequent border disputes can lead to social instability and even political deviation.”
Thus, for the long–term solution all the concerned authorities should move forward with restraint, not in thoughtless manner, said Kattel.
After India constructed road in Lipulek of Nepal, protests are taking place across the country and people are strongly demanding that India should return all encroached land to Nepal.
Nepal government on Monday endorsed a new map of Nepal that includes Kalapani, Lipulek and Limpiyadhura territories which are presently controlled by India.
