Batase Danda of Palpa recommended for film city

By A Staff Reporter , Kathmandu, Apr. 2 : A Feasibility Study Committee formed for the construction of a film city of Lumbini Province has recommended Batase Danda of Palpa district to build the city.

Its study report submitted to Minister for Internal Affairs and Law Kul Prasad KC and Secretary Rabilal Pantha on Thursday recommended Batase Danda as the suitable location for building a film city of Lumbini province.

“It is located at the centre of Lumbini province, it is rich in art and culture, and religious and historical sites. A home to people of various tribes speaking different languages, Batase Danda, is clean and has picturesque environment, and only minimum physical infrastructure is required for filming,” read the report..

The Feasibility Study Committee comprising Manoj Shrestha, KL Peedit, Dinesh Baniya, Administration Officer of the Film Development Board and filmmaker Amit Biswas has recommended 1,139 ropanis of land of Batase Danda area of Tansen Municipality-7 for developing the film city.

After receiving the report, Minister KC said the province government would give high priority to the construction of a film city at Batase Danda.

In the current Fiscal Year 2077/78, the Government of Nepal had allocated budget for the construction of the film city in each province.

Under the same programme, the Film Development Board had formed the feasibility study committee on August 6 last year to prepare a report for the construction of one film city each in all seven provinces.

The Film Development Board tasked the Feasibility Study Committee to identify and study the potential site in the province concerned, identify and recommend a suitable site with at least four ropanis of land, build a multi-purpose structure and develop it as an international attraction for filming.
