Kathmandu, June 18: The government has decided to form a task force at the federal and local level to solve the problems seen in the construction of electricity transmission lines in the future.
A meeting of Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister, Minister for Home Affairs, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Minister for Forest and Environment Minister and Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, secretaries and officials of Nepal Electricity Authority held on Wednesday has decided to form the task force.
It has been decided to form a task force representing the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Ministry of Forest and Environment, Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation and Nepal Electricity Authority at the federal level.
Similarly, it has been decided to form a local level task force under the coordination of the Chief District Officer at the local level with the participation of the concerned bodies and the local level, according to a press statement of the Ministry of Finance.
According to the spokesperson of the Ministry of Finance Mahesh Acharya, both the task forces will make arrangements to solve the problems wherever they are seen.
Similarly, it has been decided to complete the land survey work in the area of transmission line by mid-August, supplementary EIA submitted to the Forest Office by mid-July and other EA/IEE approval work by mid-August, the ministry said.
In order to manage the land acquisition and compensation, it has been decided to submit the amendment process in the Land Acquisition Act to the government within a month.
The Ministry of Home Affairs will coordinate and facilitate to solve the problems seen in constructing structures on the land where the land has been acquired and compensation has been distributed.
The NEA will coordinate with the Ministry of Home Affairs and local administration in this regard.
There are problems in construction of transmission lines in different places of different districts, including Nawalparasi, Rupandehi, Palpa, Phalewas of Parbat, Baglung, Manthali of Ramechhap, Dolakha, Sindhupalchowk, Shankharapur of Kathmandu, Chagunnarayan of Bhaktapur, Palungtar of Gorkha, Dadeldhura, Darchula, Udayapur, Solukhumbu, Kaski, Sankhuwasabha, Chitwan, Sankhuwasabha and Siraha.
Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel said that there was no alternative but to move ahead overcoming the problems encountered in the construction of the transmission line.
He said that the government would address the genuine demands raised in various places and if there were any illegitimate demands, the construction work of the transmission line would be taken forward in the presence of the state.
Home Minister Khagaraj Adhikari said that it was necessary to work in a way to get the results. Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Sharat Singh Bhandari said that all the agencies should be involved in removing the problems that have arisen due to the increase in power generation and lack of transmission lines.
