Asim Rai, chairman of the rural municipality, claimed that the plan would help in the wider development of the historically and environmentally significant Sukepokhari and exploit the tourism potential of lower Solukhumbu.
He also informed that Sukepokhari would be turned into a religious site by building Hindu, Buddhist and Kirant temples. “Our aim is to bring tourists coming to visit Haleshi Mahadev in Khotang to Sukepokhari as well,” Rai shared. Locals are also enthusiastic about the master plan and want it to be implemented as soon as possible. “This will create jobs for the people and support the domestic tourism industry,” said local Lakhdhan Rai.
It is estimated that a budget of Rs. 50 million will be required for the implementation of the master plan. Of this amount, the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation will provide Rs. 30 million and the local government put in Rs. 20 million. Tenders have been called for the construction project.
