By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Jan. 5: Special programmes have been launched at the Patan Durbar Square to attract more tourists targeting the Visit Nepal Year-2020.

Many programmes have started from the establishment day of Patan Museum on December 8 and some are in the process to be launched, said Sandeep Khanal, chief at monument conservation and palace maintenance section of the Patan Durbar Square.

From the establishment day, the temporary musical instrument exhibition was launched for a month and it was extended for 10 days now.  It will be extended as per the demand of the visitors for more days, he said.

Focusing on the intangible heritage of the Lalitpur District, cultural dances and playing of musical instruments are being performed. Live performances of Dhime and Ka musical instruments and Manjushree dance are now in progress.

The museum is all set to open two galleries to provide information to the visitors on the situation of monuments of Lalitpur district before and after the earthquake.    

Of the two galleries, the museum administration has all set to open one within next 10 to 15 days.

Dhakal said that it has started free guided tour with an objective of giving information about the entire section of the museum in two language-Nepali and English.

Free guided tour has not been limited for Visit Nepal 2020, it will continue for long time to come, he added.

Under the plan, the museum has proposed to manage sound and lights show to make longer staying hours of the visitors. The Malla era’s traditional story matters will be shown in water and open space.

Khanal said, “We have been discussing with other concerned authorities to start this sound and light show. The final proposal letter would be completed by the end of this month.”

The show will support the museum to stay open till 8 pm or 9 pm. At present, the museum opens till 6 pm daily.

The museum has been moving ahead by coordinating with the local hotels and municipality programmes, he said.
