By Chhetu Sherpa, Kathmandu, Sept. 18: Sanu Sherpa, who has set a world record by climbing 14 mountains above 8000 meters, is going to climb Dhaulagiri mountain again to set a new record. He said that he is going to climb Dhaulagiri to become the first person in the world by climbing 14 high mountains above 8000 meters twice.

Sherpa, 48, a permanent resident of Makalu Rural Municipality-1 of Sankhuwasabha district said that out of 14 high mountains he has climbed 10 mountains repeatedly so far, and Dhaulagiri will be his 11th mountain.

If he completes the ascent of Kangchenjunga, Makalu and Gasherbrum, he will be able to write the name of the person who has climbed the 14 highest mountains in the world twice. A few years ago, a Spanish climber, made two attempts to climb the 14 highest mountains but was unsuccessful.

Sherpa first began climbing the 8,000-meter-high Mountain in 2006. He had completed 14 high mountain climbs in 2019 along with Dhaulagiri mountaineering and was named a world record climber. Currently, only five people in Nepal, including Mingma Sherpa of Sankhuwasabha, Chhangdawa Sherpa, Gavu Sherpa of Taplejung and Nirmal Purja of Myagdi, have set a record by climbing 14 mountains above 8,000 meters in the world.

Sanu Sherpa had climbed the top seven mountains for the second time in 2019 and Annapurna, Lhotse and K2 in 2021.

19 Nepali teams, including Sherpas, set a world record last year by climbing the world's second-highest K2 mountain in Pakistan for the first time during the winter.
