Kalaiya, Mar. 10 : Farmers in Bara district produced potatoes worth Rs. 2.87 billion this year.
A total of 115,038 tonnes of potatoes worth Rs. 2.87 was produced in the district this year, said Jitendra Yadav, officer at the District Agriculture Knowledge Centre.
The production of potatoes has decreased in the district this year after the farmers shifted to cash-crops like sugarcane and fishery in the recent years, he said.
The potato planting areas have decreased over the years which attributed to the fall in potato production.
This year, the farmers in the district sowed potatoes at around 7,470 hectares of land. Per hectare productivity of potato stood at 15.4 tonnes this year.
Last year 116,732 tonnes of potatoes were produced in 7,660 hectares of land. Per hectare productivity of land was 15.23 tonnes a year ago, Yadav said.
Farmers in Uchihed, Hariharpur, Golagunj, Dewapur, Bhagawanpur, Pipperpati, Bariyapur, Matiawara of the districts are producing potatoes commercially.
