Kathmandu, Apr. 21: A parliamentary committee has directed the government to resolve problems surrounding networks of Nepal Telecom in rural areas at the earliest.
Parliamentarians attending a meeting of the Finance Committee under the House of Representatives on Wednesday asked the government to pay attention to the quality of NT service and its expansion to rural areas lacking its services. On the occasion, the parliamentarians held discussions with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology on the budget implementation situation for the current fiscal year, 2020/21 and preparations for budget for the next FY, 2021/22.
Lawmaker Shyam Kumar Shrestha stressed the need for the expansion of 4G services to the reach of all people and the transformation of postal service into courier service.
The Committee Chair Krishna Prasad Dahal suggested the government to introduce next policies and programmes that should provide job opportunities to information technology engineers at home, thus stopping brain drain.
The Ministry Secretary Hari Prasad Basyal said that the Ministry was at work to complete a framework for making Nepal digital and it has been prioritised in budget for the next FY.
Next budget would also incorporate the construction of buildings for Rastriya Samachar Samiti, he said, adding that other agendas that next budget would include are the issue of developing postal service as authority, press pass problems of journalists and security printing press.
