By Chitra Mijar, Sindhupalchwok, Nov. 15: Imports from the Tatopani border point have been eased with the initiative of the government.

At present, some 20 containers are entering Nepal through the Tatopani border, said Narad Gautam, chief customs officer at the customs office in Tatopani Dry Port.

Only 3-4 containers would enter the dry port till the Tihar festival, a week ago.

Gautam said chemical fertilizer, apple, walnuts, readymade garments, and shoes were being imported through the border point with China.

Ashok Kumar Shrestha, Chairman of Nepal Trans Himalaya Border Commerce Association, claimed that the imports were made easy with the initiative of the Government of Nepal.

He said that import-export entrepreneurs under the leadership of the Association had approached and urged Foreign Minister Dr. Narayan Khadka, Ministry of Commerce, ambassadors to ease the imports from the Tatopani border point.

"It is positive that the number of containers entering from China to Nepal through Tatopani order has increased. It has given some hope for the Nepali traders.

Considering the dilapidated condition of road infrastructure in the aftermath of the Earthquake in 2015 subsequent floods and landslides, China has been reluctant to allow containers to enter Nepal, said Shrestha. Now that the government has upgraded the road on the Nepal side and China has acted promptly to make the border point fully functional, he added.
