By Our Correspondent, Kawasoti, Mar. 12 : Heavy rains and hailstorms on Wednesday evening have caused severe damage to crops in East Nawalparasi.

Heavy hail and rain on Wednesday evening destroyed the wheat crop, especially in Gaindakot, Amarapuri, Razahar, Debchuli and other areas, Gopal Lamichhane, head of the Agriculture Knowledge Centre, Nawalpur said.

Up to 90 per cent of the wheat cultivation has been destroyed by hailstorm, he added.

At that time, the farmers were trying to harvest the wheat but it was destroyed by the rain and hail.

The wheat cultivation was good this year but the weather extreme completely destroyed it, Rishiram Ghimire, a farmer of Gaindakot, said.

Another farmer, Narayan Prasad Poudel of Gaindakot, said the heavy hail and rain that fell in Amarapuri, Gaindkot, Razahar, Debchuli for more than half an hour also affected vegetable crops.

A large number of farmers have been cultivating wheat in Gandkot, Amarapuri, Debchuli, Razahar, Madhyabindu and other areas of East Nawalparasi every year but this year it got destroyed right at the harvest time.

Farmer Rishiram Ghimire said that this time farmers may not be able to recover even the seeds and the investment made for wheat cultivation.

Lamichhane, head of the Agriculture Knowledge Centre, said that the farmers are facing problems and worries due to the weather extremes that come from time to time.
