FM Paudel calls for environment to increase capital expenditure at local level

Kathmandu, Jan. 11: Finance Minister Bishnu Prasad Paudel has directed the Municipal Association of Nepal and the National Association of Rural Municipality to create an environment to increase capital expenditure at the local level by giving special priority.
In a meeting held at the Ministry of Finance Sunday, Finance Minister Paudel urged the President of the Municipal Association of Nepal Ashok Kumar Byanju and the President of the National Association of Rural Municipality Hom Narayan Shrestha to play their role in increasing capital expenditure at the local level.
Out of the amount that reached at the local level, Rs. 126 billion has not been spent. FM Paudel urged to create more wave of development activities in the villages and municipalities by spending the remaining budget.
Meanwhile, he also requested for assistance to the families at high risk from COVID-19.
He also urged to create an environment to implement the Prime Minister Employment Programme making more effective and productive.
In a meeting with Minister for Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation Dr. Shiva Maya Tumbahamphe discussed to expedite the works of Landless Squatters’ Problem Resolution Commission effectively.
The commission has signed agreements with 193 municipalities in 47 districts to resolve the land issue.
Finance Minister Paudel said that the land issue would be resolved permanently by coordinating among the federal, state and local levels.
Dr. Tumbahamphe also informed that an agreement will be reached in the remaining municipalities and work will also start.
She said that active role of the local levels was essential to resolve the land problems.
Byanju expressed the view that it would be more effective to work with a schedule.
Shrestha said that it was important to have a focal person at the local level to expedite the development works.
