Ranjha, Sept 11 : As many as 3,000 goats reared by women farmers from Banke district are to be sent to Kathmandu for the Dashain festival this year.
Last year 1,500 goats were taken to Kathmandu for the festival and this year the plan is to send double that number, President of the District Cooperative Association, Ganga Shah, said.
According to her, the Social Entrepreneurs District Cooperative Association is making arrangements to send the goats to Kathmandu. The goats are reared by the women of Kachanapur, Mahadevpuri, Binauna, Baijapur, Kusum, Phattepur and other villages in Rapti Sonari rural municipality.
The demand for goats reared in Banke is increasing in various cities including Kathmandu as the goats reared in Banke are healthy and fat compared to goats brought from India.
Shah said production of goats has increased in the district as more and more women have adopted goat rearing on a commercial basis. (RSS)
