With 60% of total active cases of COVID-19, Kathmandu Valley is now a hotspot

By Ishwar Chandra Jha, Kathmandu, Oct. 5: The Kathmandu Valley, in recent times has become the COVID-19 'hotspot' with 1,000 to 1,500 new cases being identified on a daily basis.

As of Sunday, the national COVID-19 tally stood at 86,823 including 64,069 cases of recovery. Of the total 86,823 cases across the nation, 27,920 were detected in the Kathmandu Valley itself, thereby occupying 2/3rd of the tally.

Dr. Jageshwor Gautam, spokesperson of the Ministry of Health and Population, said that the high population density and easing of entrance in the Valley led to a massive increase in the COVID-19 tally of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur.   

Considering the increasing cases, the MoHP has also requested everyone to not come to the Valley without any urgency.

As per the data revealed by the ministry over 60 per cent of the total active cases across the nation are in the Kathmandu valley. On Sunday, over 12,000 out of 22,253 active cases of COVID-19 were in the three districts of the Valley.

Currently, Kathmandu district has 9,892 active cases of COVID-19. Also, 12,677 cases of recoveries and 103 CVOID-19 related deaths have been recorded by the district till date.

Likewise, of the total 2,797 cases of COVID-19 in Lalitpur, 1,482 have recovered and 25 succumbed to the infection. Lalitpur currently has 1,290 active cases.

Bhaktapur's COVID-19 tally is at 2,481 including 1,482 cases of recoveries, 1,290 active cases and 24 deaths.

In the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test done in every 100 people in the valley, 16 are found to be COVID-19 positive.
