By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Jan. 19: With 348 new cases of the novel coronavirus confirmed on Tuesday, the national COVID-19 tally has reached 267,992.

"In 4,956 Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) tests done in the last 24 hours, 348 persons were found infected with SARS-CoV-2," informed the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) in its daily update.

Of the new infections, 218 cases including 88 females and 130 males were recorded in the Kathmandu Valley.

Currently, there are 3,764 active cases of COVID-19 across the nation, and 190 persons, mostly those who had returned from abroad, are placed in quarantine.

Of the active patients, 844 are receiving treatment in various institutional isolations. Likewise, 161 COVID-19 patients are admitted to the ICU and 35 are receiving treatment with the ventilator facility.

Meanwhile, 441 COVID-19 patients receiving treatment in institutional isolation or staying in home isolation recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours. Nepal has now recorded 262,259 cases of recoveries and the recovery rate is at 97.9 per cent.

Moreover, four persons succumbed to the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours. With this, Nepal’s COVID-19 death toll has reached 1,969.
