Journalist Yadav to receive Nepal Bidyapati Maithili Manuscript Prize

By A Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Dec. 1: Journalist Amarendra Yadav will be awarded this year’s Nepal Bidyapati Maithili Manuscript Prize.

Yadav, who is also a Maithili poet, is working with The Rising Nepal English Daily.

He will be presented the prize of Rs. 100,000 for a manuscript of his upcoming Maithili poem collection titled Istri aa Aaig (Woman and Fire).

The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation had established the Bidyapati Prize Fund in Janakpurdham in 2068 BS.

Every year, the Fund distributes five prizes, including the Manuscript Prize, to various personalities for their contribution to the fields of Maithili language, literature, culture and art.

According to a press statement issued by the Fund on Saturday, Nov 29, Nepal Bidyapati Maithili Language and Literature Prize of Rs. 200,000 would be presented to Maithili Sahitya Parishad, Saptari.

Similarly, Nepal Bidyapati Maithili Translation Prize and Nepal Bidyapati Maithili Research Prize, both carrying a purse of Rs. 100,000 each, will be handed over to Brikhesh Chandra Lal and Sujit Kumar Jha respectively.

Likewise, Mithila painting artist Ajit Kumar Sah and Maithili singer Sunita Kumari Sah have jointly been selected for Nepal Bidyapati Maithili Art and Culture Prize of Rs. 100,000.

The Bidyapati Fund said that all the prize recipients would be honoured organizing a special ceremony in the near future.
